Our Obligation to God

In this life we all have obligations.  We should provide for our family, obey the laws of the land, pay our taxes, love our spouse and children, be good neighbors, and many others.  But what about our obligations to God?  The following verses can give us guidance regarding our responsibilities to our heavenly Father.

  • We must be grateful to God.

Heb 12:28 - Therefore, since we received a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us show gratitude, by which we may offer to God an acceptable service with reverence and awe…”

  • Serve with wholehearted obedience.

1 Sam 15:22 - Samuel said, "Has the Lord as much delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice…”

  • Let our actions demonstrate our faith.

Matt 7:21 - "Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven…”

  • The only true wealth is found in putting God first in our lives.

Matt 6:24 - "No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.”

Matt 4:10 - Then Jesus said to him, "Go, Satan! For it is written, 'YOU SHALL WORSHIP THE LORD YOUR GOD, AND SERVE HIM ONLY.'"

  • God must be the driving force in our lives.

Eccl 12:13 - “The conclusion, when all has been heard, is: fear God and keep His commandments, for this is the whole duty of man.”

How are you doing fulfilling your obligations to God?  Let’s all dedicate ourselves to begin this week putting Him and His Will first in all we do.
